No. 2921/1918.
Sir,
Colonial Secretary's Office,
Hongkong, 14th. June, 1918.
Referring to my letter of the 18th. May, and
to His Excellency's subsequent interview with the Unofficial Members of the Legislative Council, I am directed to state that, owing to a misunderstanding on the part of the clerk entrusted with the compilation of the necessary statistice, very serious mistake was made in the calculation of the sum required to meet the proposed bonus on Salaries of Civil
Servants, by the omission of the Chinese and Indim Police, the Sanitary Board coolies and other coolies and messengers.
2. The correct figure should be 8178,000, in place of $125,000. of this sum 882,400 is required to meet
the proposals i, ii, and iii in my former letter, while
proposal iv involves the expenditure of 895,600.
3. I am to enquire whether the Unofficial
Members are still prepared to endorse His Excellency's pro-
-posals.
The Honourable
Mr. H. E. Pollock, K.C.
I am etc.,
(Sd.) Claud Severn,
Colonial Secretary.
